Using Offers
Offers
allow you to keep the sites you use most, at your fingertips. You can bookmark both internal pages or external sites. These bookmarks can be organized with the help of folders. With Offers
, you can do the following:
There are two modes in the Bookmarks portlet: Configure Mode and Edit Mode. In both the modes, all the actions described above can be performed. The changes done in the Configure mode is reflected throughout the portal, whereas the changes done in the Edit mode will be reflected only in the respective portlet.
- Click any bookmark to view.
- Click any folder with
displayed next to it to view the bookmarks in the folder.
- External bookmarks open in a new window. Close this window to return to your list of bookmarks.
- Choose
from the title bar.
- Click Add Bookmark.
- Type a bookmark title in Name, if desired.
- Select a folder to store the bookmark. By default, (Root) is selected if no folder is specified.
- Select Internal portal bookmark if the bookmark is internal. Select the page that you want to bookmark.
Note: A page created by a user must have a custom unique name specified under Portal Settings in the Administration tab in order to appear on the list of available pages to bookmark. See your system administrator for more information.
- Select External bookmark for an external bookmark, and type the fully qualified URL, for example, http://www.ibm.com/.
Note: For bookmarking any external sites, make sure that only valid http is provided.
- Type an Image URL for the selected bookmark, if desired. Click Refresh to preview the image.
- Click OK to confirm your changes, Cancel to start over, or Delete this bookmark to delete the bookmark.
- Choose
from the title bar.
- Click on the bookmark you would like to edit.
- Type a bookmark title in Name, if desired.
- Select a folder to store the bookmark, or(Root) if you do not want the bookmark in a folder.
- Type an Image URL for the selected bookmark, if desired. Click Refresh to preview the image.
- Click OK to confirm your changes, Cancel to start over, or Delete this bookmark to delete the bookmark.
- Choose
from the title bar.
- Click Add Folder.
- Type the name of the folder you would like to add in the Folder Name field.
- Choose the location of your folder from the Location menu.
- Click OK to confirm your changes or Cancel to start over.
- Choose
from the title bar.
- Click the folder you would like to edit.
- Type the name of the folder in the Folder Name field.
- Choose the location of your folder from the Location menu.
- Click OK to confirm your changes or Cancel to start over. Click Delete this folder to delete the folder and its contents.
- Choose
from the title bar.
- Click Reorder to reorganize your bookmarks and folders.
- Select the folder or bookmark that you want to move.
- Click Move up to move the item up the list or Move down to move the item down the list.
- To move items with a folder, select the folder, and click Reorder folder items. Move selected items as desired.
- Click the Back link to return to a parent folder.
- Click Done to save your changes.
- Choose
from the title bar.
- Click Import to import new bookmarks. A new window opens up.
- Enter the path of the XML file which has your bookmarks, in the browse field.
- Click the Browse button to go to the file of bookmarks which you have to import. Import the XML file where you have stored your bookmarks.
- Click OK button to import the file.
The bookmarks will get imported onto your page or folder, which you had selected.
- Click Cancel to cancel the import.
- Click Export to export your bookmarks and folders. This displays the absolute path of the bookmarked page or folder.
- Copy the XML information onto a clipboard.
- Paste the information into an XML file using a text editor.
- Click OK to complete exporting your bookmarks onto the page or folder that you had selected.
- Name
- A descriptive name for your bookmark.
- Folder Location
- Indicates the folder the current bookmark has to be placed in.
- Internal Bookmark
- Internal bookmark creates a bookmark to another section of the site.
- Page
- The page is where the bookmark will be displayed.
- External Bookmark
- External Bookmark links to an outside website as a bookmark.
- URL
- The complete valid URL of the page or site that you want as a bookmark. For example, http://www.ibm.com/
- Image URL
- Type a fully qualified image URL for the selected bookmark. The image URL would be the absolute path for the image, which specifies the exact location where the image is stored.
Note: The image size need not be specified, as all images do appear as bullets by default. The images would be stored in the images folder in the database to which the portlet is uploaded.
- Folder Name
- The name of the folder you would like to create.
- Folder Location
- The location at which the folder you create will be stored.
